June 2010

See what the Radioskills trainees are up to now!

It's Tuesday and it's Team Magazine Show day. This is our second one and we already seem to be getting into the swing of organising ourselves properly. My task this week is Feature Reporter and I chose to make a piece on the joys of Wimbledon. It covers most of the traditions (strawberries and cream, the temperamental English weather...) and I'm quite pleased with it as a light piece of entertainment. For my next piece (I'll be a feature reporter again), I have chosen the slightly more adventurous topic of an Inverness Gay Pride (or the lack of one!) and I'm currently in the process of trying to organise an interview.....time is running out though and I should really have a back-up plan!

We've just sorted out what roles we'll have for the rest of the shows and in a mo we'll have a run-through of today's one before the real thing.

All in all, we're very blimmin busy!

The day has finally arrived!

We have done our VQ Induction  It went really well!  We got lots of information. Things make alot more sense now than the initial induction at the beginning of our training.  Things are no longer scary - just exciting and interesting - woo hoo! Let's Go!!!!

We got a big fat lunch too with yummy sandwitches (Gemma had a Salad coz she is special) and lots of homebakes.  I ate far too much cake and now feel rather sick.

This is how you look after to much inducting and too much cake.  Hee Hee

Now I am off to sign in to my Learning Assistant - which will guide us through our learning process.
Bye

Well what a day I had on Thursday!
Actually that's not strictly speaking true.........it started on Thursday but has carried on all weekend.
First things first however.
As you probably know we as trainees have been given a really cool task for the next few weeks - we have to present an 'as live' show ans each week our roles change. I had the outside Broadcast for the first show which was great fun - I went down to the Calman Trust in the Longman and had a chat with them for a wee while.
My next role is that of Co-Presenter with my good buddy Gemma in the driving seat. One of the responsibilities of the Co-Presenter is to organise the guest for the show. What fun I have had! My guest is going to be well received in the office as she goes to workplaces and gives massages. The plan is to mike both her and the lucky person who gets to be in the hotseat. Watch this space!!!!!

The next cool thing is that I went as a 'raving' (in the words of my friend) reporter to Burgie Horse Trials complete with voice recorder and MFr jacket. There were no press badges left so I was promoted to Committe Member! I had a lovely day watching the dressage and intervieing lots of different people associated with the event - from the FEI Technical Delegate to the Course Designer to the lovely Ludwig - the leader of the CCI* after the dressage. Back again on Saturday for the Cross Country then Show Jumping on the Sunday. By the end I was so much more confident about approaching people - it was great.
The best thing however was that I phoned the results on Friday to Auldy for Live at Five and then sent John an email with a report and some audio and although he cut it a bit he did use it this morning.

Also on Friday I was able to finalise some interviews for my Monster FM Celtic Show - it's great when things go well!
I love this training and the feeling when things go well.
Onwards and upwards

Hi Folks!

It's been a while since my last blog so I thought I'd write you a shiny new one from a whole different location in the building! I'm having a go at being receptionist this afternoon. I'm hoping it'll be quiet so I can get a bit of work done for Radioskills *fingers crossed* We'll see how the phone lines treat me later!

As usual we're super busy with our tasks. We had our first team Magazine Show on Tuesday so that was quite an eye-opener. Each week we get given a different role within the show so we all get a chance at doing everything that goes into a radio show. Scary stuff but we're hoping that by the time Monster FM kicks off we'll all be so used to doing it that presenting for a month will be no problem at all! That's the hope anyway!

If you haven't already checked out Monster FM, click on the logo and you'll be magically whisked away to the page!

I'd like to point out that it's taken me 20 MINUTES getting that logo and link sorted for you. You'd better click it!!! Hope you have a fab weekend! Gems x
